Inside the Copperbrook Spring Open

Home/Blog/Spring Open

A record 144 players, morning frost giving way to perfect May sunshine, and a finish nobody at the scorer’s table will forget. This year’s Spring Open had everything championship golf promises.

Round one: a record falls

The tone was set early when defending champion Daniel Okafor toured the course in 64 — eight under par and a new competitive course record. His eagle on the par-5 12th, holed from the greenside bunker, drew the biggest crowd of the weekend.

Behind him, junior member Amelia Hart announced herself with a level-par 72, the best round of her young career, to sit inside the top ten overnight.

Sunday: playoff on the 17th

Okafor’s lead shrank hole by hole as the wind rose, and by the time the final group reached our signature par-3 17th over the lake, three players shared the lead. Two found the water. Only club champion Priya Raman found the green — and her par was enough to force a playoff.

One extra hole settled it: Raman’s steady par against a missed four-footer, and the Copperbrook Cup stayed with a member for the third straight year.

Thank you

To the 60 volunteers, the greenkeeping team and every player who made the weekend special — thank you. Entries for next year’s Open open in January, and members always get first refusal.
